Inclusive VFX Training Programme Launches to Support Neurodiverse Talent in Australia’s Screen Industry

A new visual effects training initiative has been launched in Australia to support greater inclusion and access to careers within the screen sector for neurodiverse individuals.
Developed by Spectrum Films in collaboration with Bus Stop Films, the programme is designed to provide structured training and industry exposure for participants on the autism spectrum. Supported by Netflix alongside a range of technology partners, the year long pilot will commence in late 2025, with a small cohort selected from across Australia.
Delivered entirely online, the initiative will focus on building technical capabilities in areas such as rotoscoping and matchmove, alongside broader industry knowledge to prepare participants for entry level roles in visual effects. The programme has been designed with input from the autistic community to ensure accessibility and relevance, and will be supported by ongoing guidance throughout its duration. It also responds to broader challenges around employment access, aiming to create clearer pathways into the screen industry for underrepresented groups. As demand for skilled workers across production and post production continues to grow, initiatives such as this highlight the role of targeted training programmes in expanding the talent pipeline and supporting a more inclusive screen workforce.
