Paramount+ Continues Investment in Australian Original Drama with Mushroom Murders

Nov 2, 2026

Paramount+ has commissioned Mushroom Murders, a new six-part Australian drama starring and executive produced by Emmy-nominated actress Melanie Lynskey.

Inspired by the Victorian mushroom poisoning case that captured international attention, the series will explore the 97 days between the fatal family lunch in 2023 and the arrest of Erin Patterson.

Bringing the story to the screen is an accomplished Australian creative team, led by co-creators Anya Beyersdorf (Fake, Apple Cider Vinegar), Daina Reid (The Handmaid's Tale, Run Rabbit Run) and Deb Balderstone (Dustfall).

Reid will direct all six episodes, while Beyersdorf joins Belinda Chayko (Fires, Dustfall) and Dianne Taylor (After the Party) on the writing team.

Produced by SOAPBOX PICTURES, Mushroom Murders brings together filmmakers whose work spans some of Australia's most recognised television productions and internationally successful streaming series.

The commission adds another locally developed drama to Paramount+'s Australian originals slate, creating further opportunities for Australian creatives to bring their work to audiences.

With a story that has already drawn worldwide interest, Mushroom Murders also demonstrates the potential for Australian productions to connect with viewers beyond their home market.

Further premiere details are yet to be announced.
