Netflix’s The Big Fix to Film in Sydney, Bringing International Production Back to New South Wales

May 10, 2026

Netflix is set to return to New South Wales with The Big Fix, a new action thriller directed by Baltasar Kormákur and starring Mark Wahlberg and Riz Ahmed. The project follows the earlier production of Apex in the state, signalling continued engagement from Netflix and its partners with Australia’s screen industry.

Inspired by real events, the film centres on a former Interpol officer who uncovers an international match fixing operation while working within a global sporting body. As the investigation deepens, the story unfolds across multiple countries, following a high stakes pursuit between opposing figures entangled in a complex global network.

Production is scheduled to commence in Sydney, with the city serving as the primary base for filming. The project is expected to generate around 500 jobs for local cast and crew, while contributing an estimated AUD55 million to the New South Wales screen sector and broader economy.

The production has been secured through a combination of state and federal support, including the Made in NSW Fund and the Location Offset, reflecting the continued role of incentive frameworks in attracting large scale international projects to Australia.

The return of Netflix, alongside established international producers and talent, highlights the strength of New South Wales as a production destination. With its combination of diverse locations, experienced crews and established infrastructure, the state continues to support projects that require both scale and authenticity.

Together, projects such as The Big Fix demonstrate sustained demand for Australian production capabilities, reinforcing the country’s position within the global screen and streaming landscape.
