Breakers Begins Filming in Western Australia, Marking a First for Netflix in the State

Production is underway in Western Australia on Breakers, an eight part series that represents the first Netflix production to be filmed in the state.
Shot in the South West, the project is the largest screen production to take place in Western Australia to date. It is expected to generate more than AUD19 million for the local economy and support over 100 jobs for Western Australian cast and crew.
The series arrives at a time of growing momentum for the state’s screen sector, following the recent completion of Perth Film Studios. Backed by the Western Australian Production Attraction Incentive and supported by Screenwest, Breakers signals increasing capacity to attract high value international productions.
Produced by Clerkenwell Films in partnership with BBC Studios Productions Australia, the series stars Antony Starr and follows two travellers who become entangled in a close knit surf community. The production also brings together a mix of international and local creative talent, with Western Australian heads of department contributing across key roles.
Filming is scheduled to continue through June 2026, with the series set for global release on Netflix.
Together, the project highlights Western Australia’s emerging role within Australia’s screen production landscape, supported by targeted incentives, new infrastructure and a growing local workforce.
