From Podcast Success to Paramount+: Hedley Thomas Brings Australian Investigations to the Screen

Australian investigative journalist Hedley Thomas, whose award-winning podcast The Teacher's Pet attracted more than 100 million downloads worldwide, is bringing his investigative work to Paramount+ with a new six-part true-crime series.

Set to premiere in 2027, Hedley Thomas Investigates will see the journalist examine six Australian criminal cases, drawing on his years of experience uncovering stories that have captured public attention.

Produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia, the series marks another chapter in Thomas's career, taking his investigative storytelling from podcasts to television.

Australian journalism finding new audiences

Thomas's work on The Teacher's Pet demonstrated how Australian investigative journalism could resonate far beyond its home audience. The podcast's international success brought widespread attention to an Australian criminal investigation and established Thomas as one of the country's most recognised investigative journalists.

With Hedley Thomas Investigates, Paramount+ is bringing that approach to a new format, giving audiences an opportunity to follow six separate investigations through a television series.

The commission also reflects the growing opportunities for Australian factual storytelling on streaming platforms, where locally developed stories can find new audiences and reach viewers beyond traditional broadcast television.
