Netflix’s My Brilliant Career Climbs to No. 2 Globally, Taking Australian Stories to the World

Australian drama My Brilliant Career is finding a growing international audience, climbing to No. 2 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV chart.
The South Australian-shot series recorded 4.7 million views in its latest week and reached the Top 10 in 72 countries, including No. 6 in the US, No. 5 in the UK and No. 2 in both Australia and New Zealand.
It marks another jump for the series after its strong global debut earlier this month and shows the international reach Australian-made stories can achieve through streaming.
Based on Miles Franklin’s classic 1901 Australian novel, My Brilliant Career follows Sybylla Melvyn, a young woman determined to pursue a life beyond the expectations placed on her in turn-of-the-century Australia.
The impact is reaching beyond the screen
The series’ growing global audience is also creating interest in other parts of Australia’s creative and cultural landscape.
Its Australian-heavy soundtrack has attracted tens of thousands of Shazams, introducing viewers to music from Australian artists including Julia Jacklin, Thelma Plum and Kate Miller-Heidke.
The locations featured in the series are attracting attention too.
South Australian heritage property Yallum Park, which appears in the production, received around one-third of its usual annual website traffic in just eight days following the series’ Netflix debut.
Filmed across South Australia, the production also brought together Australian cast, crew and creatives to reimagine the world of Miles Franklin’s story for a contemporary global audience.
From an Australian literary classic and local production talent to music and South Australian locations, My Brilliant Career is showing how streaming can help Australian stories travel while creating opportunities for audiences to discover more of Australia along the way.
