Disney+’s The Artful Dodger Adds More Australian Talent for Final Season
Disney+’s Australian-made series The Artful Dodger is adding more homegrown talent to its cast, with Ewen Leslie, Stephen Curry and Broden Kelly joining the third and final season as filming gets underway in Sydney.
AACTA Award winner Ewen Leslie, whose credits include Top of the Lake: China Girl and The Cry, will play Dr Silas Wickenby, while Logie Award winner Stephen Curry (Hounds of Love, Bay of Fires) joins as Seth Pecksniff. Broden Kelly, known for Aunty Donna and Colin from Accounts, will take on the role of Sikes.
Australian actors Pamela Rabe, known for Wentworth and Deadloch, and Justin Rosniak, whose credits include Mr Inbetween and Colin from Accounts, will also appear in guest roles.
The new additions join an ensemble that already features a strong contingent of Australian talent, including Maia Mitchell, Susie Porter, Damien Garvey and Tim Minchin, alongside returning international stars Thomas Brodie-Sangster and David Thewlis.
Australian Talent Reaching Global Audiences
The expanding Australian cast reflects the opportunities locally produced streaming series can create for Australian performers to reach audiences well beyond home.
The Artful Dodger has become Disney+’s most-viewed Australian Original title to date, with the series available to audiences globally on Disney+ and in the United States on Hulu.
The production also draws heavily on Australian talent behind the camera. Season three is being produced in co-production with Sony Pictures Television’s Curio Pictures, with Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner serving as executive producers and producers, and Chris Martin-Jones as series producer.
Australian filmmakers Ben Young and Ben C. Lucas are directing, while award-winning Australian screenwriter Andrew Knight leads the scripting as executive producer alongside script producer Dan Knight, who has written across all three seasons.
With production now underway in Sydney, the final season continues the series’ combination of Australian cast, creatives and production expertise with international distribution.
Seasons one and two of The Artful Dodger are currently streaming on Disney+ globally and Hulu in the United States.
