Prime Video is adding three new Australian Originals to its slate, taking its total number of local commissions to 34 since 2019.
Set to arrive from 2027, the new titles span true crime and sport: Free Spirits: The Backpacker Poisonings (working title), Madness of Three and a fourth season of The Test.
Behind the three commissions is a bigger story. Prime Video continues to invest in Australian productions, work with local creative teams and take Australian stories to audiences around the world.
From Australian Stories to Global Screens

Free Spirits: The Backpacker Poisonings is a three-part documentary examining the 2024 Laos backpacker poisoning tragedy, which claimed the lives of six young travellers, including Australians Bianca Jones and Holly Bowles. Produced by Cineflix for Amazon MGM Studios, the series will feature personal footage, messages and first-hand accounts from a survivor and victims’ families.

Australian production company Blackfella Films is behind Madness of Three, a five-part documentary exploring the 2022 Wieambilla killings in Queensland and the events and influences that led to the tragedy.

Australian cricket will also return to Prime Video with Season Four of The Test. Produced by Cricket Australia, Whooshka Media and Amazon MGM Studios, the new season will follow the Australian Men’s Test team through some of its biggest upcoming fixtures, including the 150th Anniversary Test and the 2027 Ashes.
All three titles will be available to Prime Video audiences globally.
A Growing Australian Slate
The latest commissions bring Prime Video’s Australian Original slate to 34 titles since 2019, spanning drama, comedy, documentaries, unscripted entertainment and sport.
That slate already includes productions such as Deadloch, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, Top End Bub and Final Siren: Inside the AFL.
For Australian audiences, it means more locally made stories on screen. For the Australian production sector, it means continued commissions and opportunities for local producers and creative talent. And through Prime Video’s global reach, those stories have the potential to find audiences well beyond Australia.
Three new titles may be the latest additions, but they are also part of a much bigger and growing Australian story.
