Netflix's Extraction 3 Begins Filming in NSW, Delivering Jobs and Investment to Australia

Jul 27, 2026

Netflix has begun production on Extraction 3 in New South Wales, with filming expected to create around 450 local jobs and contribute an estimated $127 million to the state's screen industry and wider economy.

The latest instalment of the action franchise is now filming across Sydney and the NSW South Coast, with Australian actor Chris Hemsworth returning as Tyler Rake alongside Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani.

Directed by Sam Hargrave, who also helmed the first two films, Extraction 3 is supported by the Australian Government's Location Offset and the NSW Government's Made in NSW Fund, administered by Screen NSW.

Netflix's APAC Director of Production Policy, Debra Richards, said the production highlights the value of continued support for Australia's screen sector.

Director Sam Hargrave said the team was excited to return to New South Wales for the next chapter of the franchise.

Producer Patrick Newall also thanked the Australian Government, the NSW Government, Screen NSW and the Port Authority of NSW for their support in bringing the production to the state.

The first Extraction premiered on Netflix in 2020 and quickly became one of the platform's biggest film launches. Its sequel followed in 2023, with both films earning places on Netflix's Most Popular English Films list.

With production now underway on Extraction 3, the project is set to deliver jobs for Australian cast and crew while bringing further investment to the local screen industry.
