AFTRS Teachers Day Initiative Supports Pathways into Australia’s Screen Industry

Oct 16, 2025

The Australian Film Television and Radio School has launched a dedicated Teachers Day programme, bringing together more than 100 secondary school educators and careers advisors to build greater awareness of opportunities within the screen sector. Delivered in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Australia, the initiative provided participants with hands on training, industry insights and practical guidance to better support students considering careers in film, television and digital media.

The programme responds to growing interest from educators seeking a clearer understanding of entry pathways, job roles and long term career prospects within the industry. Attendees represented a broad cross section of schools across metropolitan and regional New South Wales, reflecting the nationwide relevance of screen career development. Sessions included workshops covering areas such as content creation, editing, visual storytelling and emerging technologies, alongside panel discussions featuring industry professionals and recent graduates who shared their experiences entering the workforce. The initiative also aligns with broader growth in Australia’s screen sector, where demand for skilled workers across production, post production and related services has increased in recent years.

By equipping educators with current industry knowledge and practical tools, programmes such as this play a role in strengthening the future talent pipeline, supporting the next generation of screen practitioners.
