Amazon MGM Studios’ Subversion Films in Queensland, Supporting Jobs and Investment

Production is underway in Queensland on Subversion, a new feature from Amazon MGM Studios, with filming taking place at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast.
The project, a submarine themed thriller directed by Patrick Vollrath, brings together an international cast including Chris Hemsworth and Lily James, alongside a broader ensemble of global talent. The production is utilising local studio infrastructure, including specialised facilities such as water tanks.
The film is expected to deliver significant economic benefits, with estimates of around AUD63 million in local expenditure and more than 400 roles created for Australian cast and crew during production. Supported by a combination of federal, state and local government incentives, the project forms part of a growing pipeline of Amazon MGM Studios productions choosing Queensland as a base. Together, these productions highlight the state’s continued ability to attract large scale international projects, supported by established infrastructure, experienced crews and a competitive incentive framework.
