Amazon MGM Studios Feature Begins Filming in Queensland, Reinforcing State’s Production Momentum

Production is underway in Queensland on a new Amazon MGM Studios feature based on the story of decorated Navy SEAL Mike Thornton, with filming taking place at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast.
The project, directed by Australian filmmaker Patrick Hughes and starring Alan Ritchson, marks a return to the region for the actor following previous productions filmed across Queensland. The film draws on Thornton’s real life military experience, bringing together an international cast and creative team.
Supported by a combination of federal and state incentives, including the Location Offset and Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, the production is expected to deliver significant economic benefits. It is estimated to contribute around AUD50 million to the local economy and create approximately 260 jobs for cast and crew, alongside flow on benefits for local businesses.
The project adds to a growing pipeline of international productions choosing Queensland as a base, with several Amazon MGM Studios titles already underway or in development in the state.
Together, these productions highlight Queensland’s continued appeal for large scale projects, supported by established infrastructure, experienced crews and a competitive incentive framework.
